Hello, hello, hello. Happy Wednesday on this final Wednesday of the year. If you’ve been celebrating holidays, I hope they’ve been lovely. And I hope you have a really wonderful new year coming in just a few days. I have been listening to a really delightful audiobook. It’s called A Week in Winter, so that makes it kind of timely to be listening to this time of year for those of us in the northern hemisphere.

And I found out about it in the most interesting way. I was on Hulu and Hulu was like, “Hey, do you want to watch this new show?” The show was called Obituary, and it takes place in Ireland. And just in kind of like an offhand comment one of the lines talked about this author, Maeve Binchy. And I was like, I don’t know who that is.

So I looked her up and apparently she’s written a bunch of books and a lot of people really like her. So I was like, oh, I’m going to listen to one of her books. And it’s interesting because I think I like the books more than I like the show.

The show was fine. It’s an interesting concept, it’s a little dark. It’s got almost some Dexter vibes, but if Dexter was not a professional in any way and didn’t have kind of the training he had from his adopted dad. So check it out if you like creepy murder kind of shows. But also, I’m really enjoying this book. And I’m listening to an audiobook, so I’m getting all kinds of wonderful accents. It’s got a great voice artist reading the book and I’m just really delighted about it.

And I think it’s such a good example of how things can come into our lives in really interesting and surprising ways. I’m a bookworm and have been most of my life. And yet, here’s this author who’s widely known but I had never heard of or wasn’t aware I’d heard of, until she was mentioned offhand in some show that I watched totally by accident. No one had ever recommended it to me. I mean, except for Hulu, I guess. Hulu was like, you want to watch this?

So I think that’s just something really fun. And I kind of wanted to offer that for you, like the next amazing thing in your life, like your next favorite sweater, your next favorite meal, your next best friend could be someone who comes into your life in just a really interesting and surprising way. And I just love that.

I’ve started doing TikToks. If you want to follow them, I’m @thekorilinn on TikTok. And I actually just did one the other day where I talked about if your life feels boring, just do literally anything. Like go for a walk, buy a red velvet cupcake, wear a different outfit than you normally wear. And it’s all about how just doing anything, choosing to do anything and then doing it can create movement and surprising ripples in your life that create momentum and you wind up in really interesting places.

And I think the example of finding this author and this book via that show on Hulu is such a good example of that. So that’s about finding delight and being surprised and life, which I think are really cool ideas for as we head into 2024 and we start things fresh.

I mean, this time of year is totally arbitrary to start things fresh, but I still like it for that reason. But before we start things fresh, we close a chapter. And I think that’s a really interesting and unique time of year as well to kind of think through like, what’s your 2023 been like? What can you really appreciate and delight in from this year? What was really challenging? What did you overcome? What wins did you have? How did you move forward and your goals and ambitions this year?

And with all of that, how do we say goodbye to this year? Like a loving goodbye for the things that were really amazing. Maybe a bittersweet goodbye for things that were not as amazing. Maybe a really joyful goodbye for certain things that we are really ready to leave behind. I think as an adult, it’s really common for each year to sort of bleed into the next and certain parts of the year to feel really similar to that same part of a different year.

Although I do think Covid-19 and the pandemic, the years of sheltering in place and being really quarantined, I think there’s a common idea that the past is the best predictor of the future. That what has come before shows us what’s likely to come next. And I think that that can be useful in some ways, like the sun came up today, it’ll probably come up tomorrow. And I think there are other ways in which that idea can be really limiting.

And so one thing I want you to think about as we close out 2023 and head into 2024, is the idea that you can do anything and go anywhere from the point you’re at now. And you can make big changes and go in different directions than you went in in 2023.

If there are things that went really well for you in 2023 and you would like to recreate them in 2024, I definitely think it’s great proof of concept and data that if you have the past experience, it’s likely you can create the same or something similar again in the future. Like you know how to do it because you’ve done it before. So that’s an example where the idea of the past creating the future can be really powerful for you and can be really encouraging.

But if there’s something that you tried to do in 2023 and it didn’t work, or if you went through something really difficult, or especially if there’s something you’ve tried to do over and over again and you weren’t able to do it in 2023, I really want to invite you to believe that the future can be different than the past. And that when we close out this year, and we say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024, it’s possible for you to create something wildly different if you want to.

And if there is something that you for sure want to let go of and leave behind as you move into the new year, I have just the thing for you. Two years ago around this time of year, I did a podcast about what you want to leave behind as you head into the new year. It’s episode 62, What To Leave Behind in 2021. And about 18 minutes into that episode I actually do a little meditation that walks you through letting the thing go that you don’t want to take with you.

It’s a really fun little meditation that kind of uses the imagery of doing a return at a store. But unlike real stores, this is a magical experience where they want to take back whatever it is you want to give and they want to give you literally anything you want in return. And I think it’s a really fun visualization for any time when you have something you want to let go of, but especially for this moment when we are closing out the old and welcoming in the new and making a transition from one year to another.

So what do you want to say goodbye to? And how do you want to say goodbye to 2023? What would feel soothing? What would feel satisfying? What would feel empowering? What would feel encouraging when you think about how to close out this year and how to welcome in the next? And how to welcome not just the new year, but the future you who lives in it.

And if you’re excited to talk about your future self and how to become that version of you, stay tuned because next week, the very first episode in 2024 is going to be all about becoming friends with your future self.

If you already know that 2024 is going to be your year, the year that you thrive in your career, the year that you build a powerful, loving, romantic relationship, the year that you create a community of found family that feels like home to you, the year you launch your business that you’ve been talking about launching for 10 years, the year you start a family and you’re so excited to parent in a new way that is not how you were parented and that aligns with your values, if you have big goals whether you want to write a novel, or change industries or get a huge raise, I can help you with that.

I have room for a few new one on one clients.
