Create results with half the effort

Many womxn I know are aiming for perfect all of the time, in everything that they do. They want life to be one big feast of amazingness. I want this, too, sometimes. But. When we need things to be perfect in order to finally do what we want to do, then we’ll never do what we want to do. Because life will never be perfect. Not because we’re not good enough, but because we’re humans and that’s not what being a human is about.

Here’s why that’s actually amazing news: there’s no reason not to get started right now. Since we’ll never be perfect anyways, there’s no reason to wait. You don’t need to be better. You don’t need to be more thoughtful. You don’t need to earn the right to create the life you want. You just need to choose to get to work doing it now, imperfections and all.

Did you know I still experience anxiety and overwhelm? It’s true.

I write and speak about intentionality a lot, and sometimes, I think people get the wrong idea about that and think it means I’m some kind of superhuman who is always doing her best and living intentionally.

But here’s the real talk, y’all. I am highly intentional about 50% of the time, and that’s enough to create stunning results like being featured on tv twice, earning my first four-figure speaking fee, and showing up for my amazing clients as they create stunning results of their own with the tools I teach them.

What I am saying here is this: being perfect is not required. (It’s also not possible.)

I see so many womxn quitting on themselves and their goals because they can’t do things perfectly.

And that’s why I want to tell you in no uncertain terms that I’ve created a successful business with raving clients WHILE feeling tons of anxiety and regularly visiting the land of overwhelm.

Does this mean I am anxious and overwhelmed all of the time? No, it does not. What it means is that I have learned how to navigate and manage my life, even when negative feelings show up.

My anxiety and overwhelm don’t feel the same as they used to. I have tools that help me handle them now. They can both show up and it doesn’t necessarily interrupt my day or throw me off my game.

That doesn’t mean they feel super amazing - they don’t - but they are certainly more manageable than they used to be. The same goes for anger, irritation, resentment - you name it. Being a human means experiencing the full spectrum of emotion. Even when you are intentional in how you show up in the world and your life, negative feelings are part of the deal.

Even leading an intentional life, humans are still humans. I do a lot of coaching on myself to be intentional, and I always find new pockets of my own mindset where I haven’t achieved that yet. It’s not a one and done. Just like we have to keep going to the gym to keep seeing progress, I keep coaching myself and getting coached by my mentors and peers.

Moreover, there are times in life when we may even want to choose negative emotions on purpose. For instance, if someone I love passes away, I want to be sad. Just because I believe in being intentional doesn't mean I am promoting being happy all the time. I don’t want to be happy about everything that happens in this world we live in, and you probably don’t either, but choosing on purpose how you do want to feel is surprisingly powerful.

What do you want to create in your life that you’ve been stalling on, waiting to become just a little bit better before you got started? Whatever that thing is, start now and start small. Tiny efforts done consistently create big changes. And forgive yourself for not having started already. You can’t go back and start earlier, but you don’t have to waste any more time waiting now. Give it 50% intentionality, and you will be amazed what you can do.
